International Exchanges

Yangzhou is the intersection of China’s ancient Maritime Silk Road and Land Silk Road, and in the Tang Dynasty, there were more than 10,000 foreign merchants in Yangzhou. Nowadays, Yangzhou communicates with foreign countries in more and more extensive fields.

◆ In terms of urban communication, Yangzhou has established sister cities with 69 cities, including French Orleans and Japanese Nara, etc. The World Historic and Cultural Canal Cities Cooperation Organization (WCCO) has established its domicile and secretariat in Yangzhou.
◆In terms of economic and trade exchanges, Yangzhou has developed trade cooperation with more than 200 countries and regions, and realized annual import and export volume of more than USD10 billion; more than 1,600 foreign-funded enterprises have settled in Yangzhou.
◆ In terms of cultural communication, Yangzhou has planned more than 30 rounds of international art performance activities like “The Chamber Orchestra of Europe” and “European and American Music Collection”, etc.  In 2021, the “World Horticultural Exposition” will be held in Yangzhou.
◆ In terms of event exchange, Yangzhou has held more than 30 international sports events, like the Synchronized Swimming Grand Prix of the International Swimming Federation, and FIE Women’s Sabre World Cup, etc. Yangzhou Jianzhen International Half Marathon created in 2006 has been appraised by International Association of Athletics Federations‎ to be a gold standard event for the latest 6 years successively. In addition, in the latest 3 years, Yangzhou has also held more than 40 rounds of international conferences and activities, such as the United Nations High-Level Symposium on Sustainable Cities and Sustainable Urbanization, International Bonsai Congress, and the Worldwide Symposium on Geographical Indications, etc.
